A search engine, but good.
the-isearch is a small, opinionated web search engine. We don't run our own crawler — instead we source results from Brave Search, with optional fallbacks to Google CSE, Bing, SerpAPI, or DuckDuckGo. The interesting part is what we do with those results.
Privacy
Your queries are not logged on our servers when you're not signed in. When you do sign in (with Discord), we save your search history so you can revisit it on /me — and you can clear it any time from /settings.
We do not run advertising or tracking pixels. We do not sell data. There is no analytics beacon. The only outbound calls are to your chosen search provider.
Speed
Every result page tells you which provider answered and how long it took. We aim for sub-300ms on warm cache, with skeleton loaders that appear in the same shape as the final results so the layout never jumps.
AI summaries (optional)
When an Anthropic API key is configured, we ask Claude to read the top 5 results and write a short, cited summary at the top of the page. It's labelled clearly, and it links every claim back to a source. If the snippets don't really answer your query, the summary will say so.
Keyboard
Press / anywhere to focus the search bar. Use j and k (or arrow keys) to walk through results. ↵ opens the highlighted result in a new tab.
